![]() We got up the next morning around 7.30 to find the hotel still abandoned, nothing had changed overnight, so we got up with no drinks and no food, packed our bags loaded the car up and left around 8.30 leaving a note in phrase book French saying we had departed! As we had booked it through we contacted them later that morning telling our tale, they too thought it a bit strange and promised to find out more. All we could do was go to bed hoping that nothing happen during the night as there was nobody there to help us if there was a problem. We went out for dinner and returned to find the hotel in total darkness, we have a look around outside before entering but see no life anywhere. Initially we believed that as it was a small family run hotel they may have nipped out during a quite afternoon but still by 7.30 that night we were still the only people in the hotel. ![]() in your room, and the swimming pool area was also locked. Also locked was the door into the dining and public room area, so we couldn’t get a drink and there were no facilities to make a cup of tea etc. We returned that afternoon around 3 pm to find the place deserted, we could access the hotels reception area as we had the door key code and get to our rooms but the reception area was abandoned and the phone constantly ringing and the office door locked. The main reasons for booking this hotel were, its location, superb, as the name implies we looked out over 5 of the best Chateaux in the Dordogne, the hotel restaurant as it had been well recommended and the hotel swimming pool as there is nothing nicer than after a days sight seeing to return to your hotel and have a dip in the pool just as the heat of the days mellows a little. The next morning up for continental breakfast served by the hostess our proprietor and off exploring the Dordogne. The meal was superb and the puddings out of this world, the wine wasn’t bad either, the menu a bit pricey but worth every penny! The waitress was a young English student about to start at college the next day in France where she lived locally. Slight language barrier at checking in as the proprietor did not speak English and our French was pigeon to say the least but we managed to arrange a table for dinner that night and breakfast at 9.00am the next morning. We booked for Sunday, Monday & Tuesday and arrived late afternoon on the Sunday. We booked the Le Relais des 5 Chateaux via back in May for a 3 night stay in the Dordogne in early September 2012. We were not offered coffee and eventually got up to leave, then had to wait in reception whilst the waiter had a lengthy phone call before we could pay.įor the cost of 73 euros per couple (including the 2 bottles of wine we shared) we could have eaten just as well and in far more pleasant surroundingsat many other restaurants with 5-10 Kms. However the service was terrible - after the first and main courses we were left sitting with empty plates in front of us for a long period whilst the waiter chatted to the couple at the next table.Īt the end of the meal the staff had completrely disappeared. There was a choice of 2 or three items for each of the courses.ģ of us had the 27.50 euros menu and the other 3 the 32.50 menu.įor all of us the food quality and presentation was very good and the available choices suited everyone. The fixed price menus ranged from 27.50 euros, 32.50 euros and 39.50 euros. The atmosphere was bleak - not very cheerful or attractive. The restaurant was deserted except for one other couple at the next table. A group of six of us booked for dinner on a damp June evening at the Relais des Cinq Chateaux
